The semifinals and finals are set for Friday 11

Koyonzo High School are through to the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s games that are ongoing at the Bull Ring in Kakamega.

The Stormers qualified for this stage after defeating Lenana High School 36-5 in the first quarterfinal match. Lenana became the first school to score a try against the well-conditioned Stomers.

Brandon Mulefu managed a hattrick, Kelvin Maiche scored a brace, while Eric Mbakaya managed a try in the match.

Elly Okwemba's charges kicked off their pool matches campaign with a 19-0 triumph over Bwake before hitting Shimba Hills 36-0. They then saw off Alliance High 32-0.

According to Okwemba, the boys are expecting an uphill task against Kitondo High School in the semifinals set for tomorrow.

"We will approach the game tactically and stronger. Kitondo is a good side and we can say we are prepared for them. We had an issue with lapse in defense, but we have already corrected it. They are tackling hard and stepping. So we expect a challenge," he offered.

Kitondo High School also cruised to the semifinals after a late comeback over favourites Bungoma High School. The Eastern Region team defeated Bungoma 26-12.

Bungoma High head coach Dennis Chikamai said that their defense worked wonders. He noted that they lost against Menengai yesterday due to their poor defence.

"We had an excellent defense. My boys have given their all and I am impressed. We now aim at the finals," Dennis told Mozzart Sport.

In the second semifinal match, fans will witness a mouthwatering clash between St Mary's Yala and Vihiga High School.

Vihiga defeated Bwake 31-10 while St Mary's Yala hit Menengai High School 21-10.

St Mary's Yala head coach Kenneth Mukok noted that his charges were playing each game like a final, leaving them no room for mistake.

"Every match for us is a final. There is no room for bouncing back so we have to get it right from the beginning," Mukok offered.
