Kabras, who are the defending champions of the tournament, have now advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Rugby fans in Kakamega will have yet another long weekend after Kenya Harlequins’ Coach Paul 'Pau' Murunga confirmed that his charges backpedaled their trip to Kakamega Showground to face Kenya Cup defending Champions Kabras RFC.
The Enterprise Cup was rescheduled from last weekend to this weekend to pave the way for the Simbas’ training for upcoming Currie Cup matches. Some of the Kenya Harlequins players that made the cut include Collins Obure, Wilhite Mususi, Brian Waraba, and Ian Njenga.
Led by Head Coach Paul Murunga, #KenyaHarlequins held a MIGHTY coaching clinic for Kakamega High School on Friday. Saturday and Sunday we play in the #Kakamega7s in the @OfficialKRU National Sevens Circuit.#Quins #SureStrongSuperior #NunquamDormio#COYQ#NSC2022 pic.twitter.com/GaXV80uNGr

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Pau revealed that the side opted for the Mwamba Cup to give chances to young players at the club to grow their skills. He also noted that some of the players were still injured.
“Some of our players are injured, some are in the U20 team and Simba. We do not have a good depth of players so we opted for the Mwamba Cup only to give chances to young players at the club,” the coach explained.
The injuries have been a concern at the club. When the Quins lost 22-8 to Kabras RFC during the Kenya Cup semifinals, the tactician blamed it on injuries.
“The boys have been working so hard and by the time we were coming to the semifinals, most of them were already injured,” Pau was quoted saying after the semifinal match.
Kenya Harlequins had an impressive run last season that saw them rise from relegation to playoffs. They however lost to Kabras RFC at the semifinals after a spirited performance. They were looking to avenge Kabras RFC in the Enterprise Cup match.
