The finals will be a repeat of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s regional finals played at the BullRing stadium where Koyonzo defeated Vihiga 17-7
Koyonzo High School director of rugby Oscar Okaron has exuded confidence ahead of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) rugby 7s games that are set to kickoff at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda later in the day.
The Stormers have not tasted a loss since they set foot in Rwanda. They kicked off their pool matches on a high by seeing off Kitondo High 38-0.
Their fine form continued when they knocked down Uganda’s London College 34-0 in the second pool match.
They then saw off Uganda’s Kiira College 34-10 to book a slot in the semifinal. At this stage, they defeated Jinja Senior School 17-7 to cruise to the final stage. The Stormers are set to face Vihiga Boys in the all-western final.
According to Okaron, guiding the boys to such a big stage was more than just a professional achievement for him, it was a realization of a long-held dream.
“I feel happy and excited to see a moment coming to happen in life that you had dreamed and planned for. I feel grateful too that God has brought us this far,” he said.
The Stormers have had a tenacious defense and well coordinated attacks at the East African stage. Only Ugandan teams managed to score against them.
Okaron said that the boys’ consistency was finally paying off, and that they would be looking to replicate the same form in the finals.
“Consistency of doing our things right has been the key secret to our success in this tournament. We've always taken each game seriously and learned after every game,” he revealed.
The AP Warriors coach’s confidence also stemmed from the boy's strong mindset. Having floored their opponents twice at the regional and national finals, the tactician expressed confidence in their abilities.
The FEASSSA finals will be a repeat of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 7s regional finals played at the BullRing stadium where Koyonzo defeated Vihiga 17-7. The two sides met yet again at the KSSSA rugby 7s regional finals, with Koyonzo emerging 22-12 winners.
“We trust our systems and our mindset is right. Having played two times in regionals and nationals finals, we know the areas that didn't go right and worked on them. This is our biggest moment and we are certain that we shall win the trophy,” he offered.
He assured fans that the Stormers would fight tooth and nail to emerge the FEASSSA rugby 15s champions and bring the coveted trophy home.
“My message to players and their supporters is to expect the best performance tomorrow, and we shall lift the trophy,” the former Kabras RFC scrum half revealed.
The final will be curtain-raised with the third-place playoff featuring Kitondo High School and Jinja Senior School of Uganda.
