The scrum half has built a reputation as one of Kenya's most dangerous sevens players over the past few seasons

Nondies RFC captain Ronnie Omondi has dismissed speculation linking him with a move to Menengai Oilers, insisting he remains fully committed to the Ngong Road-based side ahead of the 2026 National Sevens Circuit.

Rumors of a possible switch gathered momentum this week after reports surfaced on social media claiming the talented scrum half had joined the Nakuru-based outfit.

However, Omondi moved quickly to set the record straight following Nondies' campaign at the Ruff n Tuff 7s.

"I also saw the rumors online. I woke up one day, and I saw people saying that I moved to Oilers, and I was wondering when that happened," Omondi said with a laugh.

"But I am still at Nondies, captaining them for the National 7s Circuit. I am here to stay,” he clarified.

The reassurance comes after another standout performance from the fleet-footed skipper, who was crowned the 2026 Ruff n Tuff 7s top try scorer on Saturday.

Despite suffering an injury during the final against Strathmore Leos, Omondi once again led from the front.

He sparked Nondies' bright start by slicing through the defense before setting the platform for Tony Fidens to score the opening try of the match.

However, the hosts were edged 15-14 by the defending champions in a thrilling finale at the Ngong Racecourse.

With the opening pre-season tournament now behind them, Omondi says the team's focus has already shifted to the National 7s Circuit, where Nondies will be aiming to go one better after reaching the 2024 Prinsloo 7s final.

"We are planning to take the season a day at a time. We finished second in the Ruff n Tuff 7s. Now we see how the next two weeks will be in preparation for Prinsloo.

We have been in the Prinsloo 7s final, and we need to get back there. That is our target. But one tournament at a time,” he said.

Omondi has built a reputation as one of Kenya's most dangerous sevens players over the past few seasons.

Nicknamed the "Pocket Rocket," he has been among the standout performers during the opening two legs of the 2023 National Sevens Circuit while turning out for Mwamba RFC.

His resilience was perhaps best demonstrated during the 2023 Dala 7s, where he continued to inspire Mwamba despite sustaining an eye injury on the opening day of the tournament.

Although Mwamba fell short of winning the overall circuit title that season, Omondi's consistently outstanding performances earned him a place in the prestigious 2023 Driftwood 7s Dream Team.

His rise also caught the attention of the national team selectors, earning him his Kenya Sevens debut during the second and third legs of the 2023 HSBC Sevens World Series in Dubai and Cape Town.
