
New local rugby sevens tournament launched

At least 80 teams and 1,200 players have confirmed their participation for the Samburu 7s
A brand new local rugby sevens tournament has been launched dubbed the Samburu Sevens that is set for Friday 14 July all through to Sunday 16 July.
The tournament will incorporate teams from the Rugby Union and Rugby League with over 80 sides from across the world and 1,200 players expected to take part.
The Samburu Sevens is set to be hosted at the Kalama Conservancy with three separate pitches set aside for the three-day tournament.

The tournament is geared towards enhancing environmental and Wildlife conservation efforts in the country, treating fans and players to a nine-day experience that commences in Nairobi on Saturday 9th July.
Mike Mulroy CEO of World Sports Safaris who are part of the tournament organizers revealed that teams and players will use the event to step up their preparations for the Commonwealth Games slated for Thursday 28 July.
According to Kevin Adhere, the Director of World Sports Safaris who was speaking at the tournament launch at a Nairobi hotel on Tuesday 11 January, at least 50 union teams are expected to grace the tournament with eight teams local Rugby League sides with two more teams tentatively from Africa.
The prize money for the winners of the Samburu Sevens is yet to be decided with Rugby Tier One, Two and Three from Europe expected.

Fans who wish to grace the tournament will have a chance to experience the wildlife first-hand with planned excursions into the heart of the bush and the wildlife reserve with activities including a trek up Mount Kenya, mountain bike through the hills or take it easy with a Land Rover safari across the plains for the full nine-day experience.
