The side is now under the tutelage of Kennedy Njoroge
Nakuru RFC Head Coach Kennedy Njoroge has exuded confidence ahead of the National 7s Circuit (NSC) kickoff, Dala 7s set for July 1 and 2 at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu.
This will be Njoroge's first 7s outing with Nakuru, having previously coached NSC defending champions Menengai Oilers together with Gibson Weru. With a fossil of experience in coaching, the tactician is now aiming for the stars with Nakuru RFC after taking the reins from Simon Wariuki.
The side ended their 2022 NSC campaign at position eight with 44 points. They have been seeded in Pool A alongside their neighbours Menengai Oilers, Nondies RFC, and Catholic Monks.
"I am ready for the Oilers," Njoroge offered.
According to Coach Njoroge, every player, every try, and every pass will be a testament of their thirst for the title. Njoroge noted that the team was geared to take the rugby world by storm.
"We are geared up for the circuit. We have prepared well despite having a few challenges, but we have overcome them. We have a very good team. We had a gym session in the morning and the boys are all raring to go," he told Mozzart Sport.
Gauging their preparedness by the 7s friendlies played at the RFUEA Grounds on Saturday 17 June, the team commonly known as Wanyore could be enroute to a great showdown. They managed two wins against Mwamba RFC (17-5), and Kenya Harlequins (22-7). Their winning streak was however cut short by KCB Rugby who edged them 27-0.
Nakuru RFC also hosted the Great Rift 10s aside on May 20 and 21 where they impressed by reaching the finals. They were however knocked down by KCB Rugby 24-12.
The gaffer also shared a bit inside their training, noting that they were seeking to capitalize on kickoffs. The squad will also be bolstered by amazing talents like Victor Wambugu and Javan Otieno who will all be looking to shine.
"We are preparing all round but we are focusing on kickoffs. We have young and emerging talents who will be looking to impress," he noted.
The coach rallied on fans to support them as they take their ambitions to even higher heights, saying that they were ready to make an unforgettable impact in the 2023 NSC.
"Our aim is to win the overall and at least be top three in every tournament," the energetic tactician concluded.
Dala 7s will be the first tournament of the circuit. It is hosted by Kisumu RFC and has been played since 2003 with breaks between 2006 -2008 due to logistical challenges, and again between 2020-2021 due to the COVID19 pandemic.
KCB Rugby is the most successful side, having won four titles, Mwamba RFC and Homeboyz RFC have three titles with Kenya Harlequin and Nakuru RFC holding two titles while Impala Saracens, Strathmore Leos and the defunct military side Ulinzi each have 1 to their name.
Pool A: Menengai Oilers, Nakuru, Nondescripts, Catholic Monks
Pool B: KCB, Kenya Harlequin, Masinde Muliro, Mombasa
Pool C: Strathmore Leos, Kabras Sugar, Daystar Falcons, Kisumu
Pool D: Homeboyz, Mwamba, Western Bulls, Makueni
