Kenya Lionesses, the national women's rugby team, have received a timely morale and financial boost ahead of the HSBC Challenger Series playoffs, thanks to a Ksh2.5 million sponsorship deal from the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen).

The sponsorship, announced by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), will go directly into supporting the Lionesses’ preparations and participation in the Challenger Series leg slated for Los Angeles.
KenGen's logo will feature prominently at the back of the Lionesses' jerseys throughout the campaign.
Speaking during the launch, KRU Director in-charge of Marketing and Commercial Harriet Okatch was grateful for the support, noting that it was a timely boost for the ladies as they seek to make history.
“This partnership is a powerful show of support for women in sports and a major boost for the Lionesses as they fly Kenya’s flag high on the global stage,” Okatch said.
The sponsorship comes as Dennis Mwanja’s squad gears up for a competitive Relegation/Promotion playoffs slated for Los Angeles from Saturday 3 to Sunday 4 May.
They have been placed in Pool A, where they will face familiar foes Brazil, Spain, and Colombia.
These matchups reignite past rivalries, with the game against Brazil carrying particular emotional weight. It was the South Americans who dashed Kenya's Olympic hopes in 2019 with a 17-5 victory.
Lionesses begin their campaign on Saturday, 3 May, with a fixture against Spain at 10:12 PM EAT. They then take on Brazil in the early hours of Sunday, 4 May at 1:35 AM, before wrapping up their group stage matches later that day at 8:44 PM with a clash against Colombia, a side they narrowly beat 12-5 in their last meeting.
