The event also serves as an exciting curtain-raiser for the highly anticipated 2024 National 7s Circuit, which is set to kick off from July 27

On Saturday, 29 June, the RFUEA Grounds will throw its doors open to a unique event; the third edition of Met 7s. The event will serve as the curtain raiser for the 2024 National 7s Circuit.

What sets this tournament apart is its unique format that brings together a diverse array of teams from the Kenya Cup, Championship, and nationwide leagues.

This offers a platform where top-tier teams like Kenya Harlequin FC and Daystar Falcons from the Kenya Cup can compete alongside emerging talents from the Championship and nationwide leagues such as Zetech Oaks and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Cougars.

The event also serves as an exciting curtain-raiser for the highly anticipated 2024 National 7s Circuit, which is set to kick off from July 27-28. It offers teams an excellent opportunity to fine-tune their strategies, assess their competitors, and build momentum.

The one-day event will bring together twelve teams.

According to the tournament’s CEO Hanson Omide, the tournament will be played over a single day in accordance with World Rugby regulations. Omide also doubles up as the Chairman of Stinger’s Rugby who are the hosts of the tournament.

“Takes a synergetic format, bringing together the three leagues of the Kenya Rugby Union; Kenya Cup, Championship, and nationwide. This tournament gives a chance to the amateur teams to lock horns with the big guys in the game. This is the third edition and we intend to keep going. It is a 12-team tournament and takes a single day. We follow the World Rugby regulations where players cannot play more than four games in a day,” he offered.

At the same time, the organizers aim to use the platform to spread awareness on mental health among men. Men's Mental Health Month, observed every June, is dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges men face and encouraging them to seek help.

“This being a men’s mental health awareness month, we aim to create more awareness and showcase Met 7s brand. We are looking forward to big numbers now that the 7s circuit is around the corner. Other than families turning up and kids meeting and greeting, it will be a great fiesta,” he revealed.
