
Maseno, Mang’u remain unscathed in County School Rugby 15s Championships

The winners have qualified for the upcoming regional games scheduled for April.
Maseno School outshined Nyabondo 12-8 to emerge winners in the Kisumu County School Rugby 15s Championships on Friday. Prior to the final stage, Maseno had defeated Otieno Oyoo 31-3 while Nyabondo secured a 5-0 win over Onjiko High School.
Speaking after the match, Maseno School Head Coach Sebastian Makalek praised his charges’ game plan, saying that it motivated them to claim the title.
“When the team delivers a game plan to the fullest, they have potential to reach the nationals,” he disclosed.
KIAMBU COUNTY
In Kiambu, Mang’u High School claimed the Championship title after holding off favorites Alliance 22-3. The Champions managed four tries, and converted one to win.
To reach the final stage, Alliance had registered a 10-5 win over Kiambu High while Mang’u High School heaped a 43-0 misery on Githiga High.
Mang’u High have had an impressive run, winning two KSSSA Rugby 15s championships and three FEASSSA Rugby 15s championships.
MIGORI COUNTY
Rapogi High School claimed a 10-0 win over Kameji to be crowned champions. Rapogi started the competition on a high, winning 59-0 over Agenga in the opening match before winning 44-0 to Isibania. Meanwhile Kameji had seen off Isibania 12-0 to qualify for the semis.
Both Rapogi High and Kameji will represent Migori County in the upcoming Nyanza regional games scheduled for Kisii in April.
KISII COUNTY
In Kisii County, Kisii High School edged Nduru High 18-0 in the final match staged at the Kisii School Grounds. Prior to the final win, Kisii High had seen off Cardinal Otunga (29-0), Nyamagawa (28-0), and Igonga (33-0).
Kisii High, the current source of pride for Kisii, will represent Kisii County in the upcoming regional competitions.
HOMABAY COUNTY
Homabay School emerged the new Homabay County Rugby 15s Champions following a 13-3 win over Agoro Sare High School.
The winners had defeated Agoro Sare 16-3 and Mbita 18-13 at the preliminary stage and were looking to impress. Agoro Sare won 30-3 over Orero to qualify for the finals.
Homabay High will represent Homabay County in the Nyanza Region games at Kisii High in April. Agoro Sare High will also tackle Nyabondo High and Nduru Boys at the regional level.
NAKURU COUNTY
Jomo Kenyatta High School defeated Utumishi Boys 6-3 in the final match by virtue of sudden death. The scores were tied at 3-3 in regular time before the referee opted for sudden death.
Jomo Kenyatta won all their group matches; Muchorwe Secondary (53-0), Nakuru Boys (13-0), and Naivasha Boys (24-0). Utumishi Boys too had won all their pool matches ahead of the finals; Njoro Township (43-0), and Molo Academy (22-0).
Jomo Kenyatta have secured a place in the Rift Valley 15s tournament which will be held in Eldoret next month.
KERICHO COUNTY
Kunyak High handed Kericho High School a 41-0 clean sheet in the final to retain their championship title. Kericho High are the 2018 Rift Valley Champions, as well as the 2022 Rift Valley Prescott Cup winners.
In Trans Nzoia, Trans Nzoia High defeated Bwake 27-0 to secure a place in the upcoming regional games in Eldoret.
