Kenya 7s women's team, the Lionesses, are inching closer to securing a Paris Olympics slot after narrowly defeating Argentina 15-12 in the third quarterfinal match played on Sunday in Monaco.

This was the second time the Lionesses faced Argentina in this tournament. They last met during their final pool match, where the Kenyans emerged victorious with a 19-17 win to top the pool. Coming into the semifinals, they were determined to play their hearts out to book a plane to Paris.

The match was tense, and in the opening minutes, Sofia Gonzalez was sent to the sin bin after a neck tackle on Sinaida Nyachio. This gave the Lionesses a one-player advantage.

They quickly capitalized with a try by Grace Okulu. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful, giving the Lionesses an early lead. Play continued, and Stella Wafula spotted a gap inside Argentina's defense, racing clear to score the Lionesses' second try before halftime.

In the second half, the Dennis Mwanja-coached side scored a single try thanks to experienced Janet Okello. Argentina scored two tries courtesy of Mayra Genghini and Medini, but it wasn't enough as the Kenyans had already secured the win.

The Lionesses will tackle Czechia in the semifinals slated for 3:46 pm (EAT). The Lionesses will tread carefully as Czechia defeated Uganda 22-0 to proceed to this stage.
