The repechage offer the Kenyan girls the final chance to book a plane to Paris Olympic Games

Kenya 7s ladies team; Lionesses are through to the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Rugby 7s Series Olympics repechage after humbling Argentina 19-17 in their second and final pool match played in Monaco on Saturday.

The victory saw the Lionesses finish on top of their pool A with six points while their opponents came in second with four points.

Knowing the weight of the match, the Lionesses started strongly, with Janet Okello scoring an early try, converted by Freshia Oduor, for a 7-0 lead.

Argentina countered with tries from Marianela Escalante with Sofia Gonzalez, converting to tie the game at 7-7.

Judith Okumu then registered her name on the scoresheets with an unconverted try to put the Lionesses back in the lead.

Argentina's Maria Brigido Chamorro equalized at 12-12 before capitalizing on a handling error by Kenya’s fly-half to take a 17-12 lead.

Nevertheless, the Lionesses fought back tenaciously, with Oduor scoring again and Grace Adhiambo converting to clinch a 19-17 victory.

Originally, the pool comprised four teams, but Papua New Guinea withdrew, leaving just three. Lionesses saw off Samoa 31-5 in the opening pool match.

They missed an opportunity to automatically qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games after succumbing to a 12-7 defeat against South Africa in the 2023 Rugby Africa Women’s 7s Cup final played in July 2023 in Monastir, Tunisia.

The repechage is their final chance to book a plane to Paris.
