KSSSA: Butula, Kitondo, All Saints, Lenana through to rugby 15s semifinals

Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) rugby 15s defending champions Butula High School are on course to retain their title if their recent performances are anything to go by.

The side proceeded to the competition's semifinals after defeating All Saints Embu 12-9 on Thursday 11 at Machakos Boys Grounds.

The Western rugby giants coached by Shimenga Livondo alias Shim scored their two tries through Dennis Ukwesi and Chadwick Omondi. Michael Lukusi added the sole conversion.

Their opponents managed their three points thanks to three drop goals from Thomas Kerubo and Josephat Mbatia.

Speaking after the win, Shimenga heaped praises on the boys' performance, expressing confidence that they would reclaim the title they won last year in Eldoret.

"I am very happy that we won. We will go back and strategize on how to win the semifinal match. There are areas we anticipate to improve like the handling errors which slowed down our move," the tactician tile Mozzart Sport.

They will tackle Kitondo in the first semifinal match.

To proceed to the last four, Kitondo had seen off Coastal champions Marafa 36-6.

Kitondo's coach Dennis Chikamai was impressed with his charges' run in the competition noting that they achieved their target this year.

This was their second time playing the nationals, and they were looking to shine.

"We were targeting winning with a bonus and we have executed. This far, it shows that we are on the right track. The games were tough but we played according to our structure. Our target was to reach the nationals. We always aim to go a step further," said Chikamai.

In the second semifinal, All Saints will face off with Lenana High School.

All Saints coach Benson Kinyua is confident that his boys will get the job done and sail to the final.
