KSSSA: Butula and Koyonzo to battle for national 7s title

There will be a new champion of the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSA) rugby national games with Butula Boys High School and Koyonzo Secondary Schools contesting for the final.

This will be a repeat of the Western Region final where Koyonzo convincingly beat Butula as the two teams also book a place in the East Africa Games slated for Arusha, Tanzania.

Nairobi sides Upper Hill and Ofafa Jericho High School who were among the pre tournament favorites suffered a rude shock in the Main Cup quarters as the reigning national 7s champions Upper Hill suffered elimination at the hands of the impressive Butula Boys High School, going down 31-5.

Reigning Nairobi region champions Ofafa Jericho who were making their debut in the national games were also bundled out at the Main Cup quarter following a 28-0 thumping at the hands of Nduru Secondary school.

The physicality of Koyonzo who have muscled up players in their squad annihilated Alliance High School 52-0 in a one sided quarter final which the Central region representatives failed to turn up.

Butula Boys High School were were by far the most impressive side in Day 1 extended their 100% record with a convincing 31-5 win over Upper Hill.

Nanyuki sealed the final slot available in the Main Cup semi finals after getting past a decent All Saints Boys-Embu who caught the eyes of many with their impressive brand of rugby.

In the Main Cup semis, Koyonzo extended their 100% record in the final after beating Nduru 24-7 who stunned Ofafa Jericho in the quarters.

In the other semi final, Butula High School faced a stern test against Nanyuki but just had what it takes as they sailed to the final courtesy of a 24-7 win.
