The Kakamega 7s has been shifted from June to July and will now serve as the season ender
The country’s rugby governing body, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), has made a change to the lineup of the 2022 National 7s Series Circuit that will be making its return to the country next weekend after a two year hiatus occasioned by the novel coronavirus pandemic.
While the circuit will still be maintaining the original six outings, the Kakamega 7s which was planned as the third tournament of the half a dozen will now serve as the last outing completing the 2022 circuit.
Initially planned to take place on 11/12 June after the season opening Kabeberi and the Christie 7s, the Kamaega outing has been pushed to 16/17 July.
“The Kenya Rugby Union has made a change to the National Sevens Circuit order of tournaments. The Kakamega 7s, originally slated as the third leg of the circuit will serve as the season-ender, taking place on 16th/17th July in Kakamega,” read a statement from KRU.

The change in scheduling has been occasioned by the fact that the men’s national rugby 15s side, Kenya Simbas, who are currently in South Africa, will be back in the country to host two of their Currie Cup matches against Leopards and Eastern Province Elephants on June 4 and 11 respectively.
The 7s campaign is set to kick off with Mwamba RFC hosting the George Mwangi Kabeberi 7s next weekend on 21/22 May 2022 at RFUEA Grounds before teams take part in the Christie 7s a week later on 28-29 May at the same venue.
There will then be a two week break in between before the Driftwood 7s taking place in Mombasa on the 18/19th June. Another one week break will follow before consecutive outings in Kisumu, Nakuru and Kakamega for the Dala 7s, Prinsloo 7s and the season ending Kakamega 7s.
