The much-anticipated Women’s Rugby Super Series match pitting Jaguars and Eagles will not go on as planned, the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has announced.
This is in compliance with World Rugby’s return-to-play protocols.
In a statement seen by Mozzart Sport, the Union noted that the ladies were exempted from action this weekend, but they would light up the pitch during the final round of the series slated for May 25 at the RFUEA Grounds.
“The scheduled women’s match between the Jaguars and Eagles will not take place. We will retain their Match Day 4 fixture. We appreciate our fans’ understanding and look forward to their continued support!," the statement read.
The Lionesses’ 15s team is fresh from the Rugby Africa Women’s Cup, where they failed to qualify for the 2025 Rugby World Cup after suffering two defeats to Madagascar (29-22) and South Africa (63-5). After a 39-17 score, they picked up their sole win in the final match against Cameroon.
Their sisters, the 7s team, flew to Poland for the final round of the Challenger Series, slated for May 18–19.
Meanwhile, the men’s fixtures remain unchanged.
The action will feature thrilling encounters between Faiba Mobile Rhinos and Menengai Cream Cheetahs, while the hosts, Kabras Sugar Buffaloes, will lock horns with the KCB Bank Lions with only the Menengai Cream Cheetahs. Lawi Buyachi's tutelage only ensures a top-two finish for the Cheetahs.
The Cheetahs have won all their matches since the series kicked off. They started with an 18-5 victory over the Buffaloes. They then narrowly defeated the Lions 18-16 in the second match, topping the table with eight points.
The Lions will be looking to bounce back to winning ways. They started their campaign well by defeating the Rhinos 29-7 but failed to sparkle in Nakuru.
The hosts, the Buffaloes, will be looking for a second victory. They suffered a loss to the Cheetahs in the opening round before defeating the Rhinos for their maiden RSS win. They will have the advantage of being home.
The Rhinos have not tasted a win since the series kicked off and will be keen to go past the Cheetahs. However, they anticipate an uphill task.
