The Arsonists dropped to the nationwide league in 2018.
Moi University Arsonists are gearing up for a tough battle when they welcome Maseno University in the first nationwide quarterfinal that will be underway in Moi University on Saturday 1 April at 3 pm.
The Kesses-based team had ample time to train for the encounter after Kilifi RFC handed them a walkover last weekend. Prior to that, the side had defeated Kitale 27-20 in the round of 16 and will be hoping to extend their fine run.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Moi University head coach Ali Mbaraka revealed that he anticipated a tough battle.
“This being the championship qualifiers quarter-final, it only means that both sides are good and ready for the challenge. We are looking forward to the challenge and fans can expect a mouth-watering encounter,” Ali said.
So far, according to Ali, his charges have enjoyed the season, and their fitness levels were right. Moi University have had an impressive run this season, and have been ranked top on the Rift Valley Standings.
“The season has so far been good. We have had a good run so far and the boys have enjoyed it. The boys’ fitness levels are right. We have a few injuries but they are manageable. We are optimistic that we will put up a good fight worthy of the quarter-finals stage,” Ali said.
Elsewhere at the JKUAT Grounds, Administration Police will welcome Kitale RFC at 1pm before paving way for the hosts JKUAT vs Machakos University at 3 pm.
Kitale RFC Head Coach Ben Amboko was confident that his charges would impress. The side reached the semi-final stage last season but were eliminated by Zetech University. This season, Amboko is sure to move to a higher Championship level.
