Shamberere qualified for the round of 16 after upsetting Kisii RFC while Moi University suffered a 12-9 loss to nationwide newbies Project 61
Former Kenya Cup side Kisii RFC will be hoping to carry the day in their Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) nationwide round of 16 match against Stallions. The match is set for the Kabete Polytechnic on Saturday 20 April.
Under the tutelage of Lee Astone, Kisii advanced to this stage following the completion of the regional finals.
They suffered a narrow 11-10 defeat to Shamberere to book a date with the Stallions.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Astone noted that their loss during the Western region finals served as their motivation to train harder.
He says they were looking to apply the skills earned during training to emerge victorious.
“Since our loss to Sigalagala my boys embarked on a hard training session having more strength and conditioning sessions for us to have the required physicality and conditioning,” Astone offered.
He expressed confidence that his charges will get the job done.
“I believe all the departments in the team are well polished and we will adjust our play as the game goes on depending on how they will play. You should expect a win from us as that is also what we expect from ourselves. It's just a stepping stone to be where we are aiming to become next season,” he said.
Their opponents Stallions defeated Administration Police 9-6 in the closely contested match to proceed to this stage. They will be hoping to leave a mark.
Meanwhile, Moi University Arsonists are gearing up for a tough match against Shamberere Institute.
Shamberere qualified for the round of 16 after upsetting Kisii RFC while Moi University suffered a 12-9 loss to nationwide newbies Project 61.
Eldoret-based P61 will face off with Kenya Prisons and the former’s coach Sheldon Munoko was confident that they were keen to cause upset.
“The team has been showing great progress and I believe they will keep up the fine form. We hope to go past this pre-quarter stage and proceed to the next one. By now, people should know that P61 is bringing rugby back to Eldoret,” Munoko told Mozzart Sport.
