The tournament was set to kick off on Saturday 2 November in Kampala, Uganda

The much-anticipated 2024 Elgon Cup has been rescheduled, as announced in a joint statement released by the Kenya and Uganda Rugby Unions.

Following a consultative meeting on Saturday 26 October, both unions agreed to a revised schedule, which sets the first leg of the tournament in Nairobi, Kenya, on Saturday 9 November, and the second leg in Kampala, Uganda, on Saturday 16 November.

The tournament was set to kick off on Saturday 2 November in Kampala, Uganda.

The statement, signed by the chairmen of both unions, expressed appreciation for the patience and support of fans and stakeholders, promising an exciting competition on the new dates.

The postponement provides Kenya’s national rugby team, the Simbas, additional time to prepare and fine-tune their strategies as they aim to retain their title.

The Simbas head into the tournament as defending champions, having claimed victory in the 2023 Elgon Cup with a 20-13 win over Uganda.

Jone Kubu’s exceptional performance, scoring 15 points, was instrumental in Kenya’s victory at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu, avenging their close 21-20 loss to Uganda in the Victoria Cup final a week earlier in Kampala.

To maintain their edge, the Simbas’ provisional squad will head to a residential camp in Kakamega ahead of the tournament. The camp aims to sharpen the team’s performance before they take to the field for this year's first leg in Nairobi.

Kabras Sugar RFC contributes a significant number of players, including Ephraim Oduor, Teddy Akala, and Jone Kubu, whose scoring prowess last season was pivotal.

The squad also includes players from Menengai Oilers, KCB, Impala RFC, Blakblad, and Kenya Harlequin.
