The Simbas’ progression not only strengthens their international standing but also edges them a step closer to qualifying for the 2027 Rugby World Cup

The Kenya Simbas have moved up a place to 32nd in the latest World Rugby Rankings following a hard-fought 32-24 victory over Uganda in the Rugby Africa Cup quarterfinal played on Tuesday, 8 July, at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala.

The win awarded Kenya an additional ranking point, propelling them further ahead of their arch-rivals Uganda, who have now dropped to 43rd globally.

The Simbas’ progression not only strengthens their international standing but also edges them a step closer to qualifying for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Next up for the Simbas is a semifinal clash against Zimbabwe on Sunday, 13 July, again at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Zimbabwe advanced to the semifinal after dismantling Morocco 43-8, and will pose a strong challenge to the Kenyan boys.

The fixture is rich in history.

It was Zimbabwe who dashed Kenya’s World Cup hopes in 2014, beating them 27-10 in the Rugby Africa Cup final and sending Namibia to the 2015 World Cup instead.

Coincidentally, the Simbas were under the guidance of Jerome Paarwater back then, the same man now at the helm again, hoping to take the team one better this time around.
