The move continues his rise as one of the country’s most dependable and versatile rugby stars.
The powerful backrower, who joins from Kenya Harlequins, has been a consistent figure in both the 7s and 15s formats for Kenya.
He is famous for his brute strength, tackling ability, and all-around versatility.
The 29-year-old now becomes one of the few Kenyan players to take their talent to the Dutch Ereklasse, the top tier of rugby in the Netherlands.
Humwa’s rugby journey is rich with milestones. He made his Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 in rugby sevens and went on to represent Kenya at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Cape Town (2022) before returning for a second Olympic appearance at Paris 2024.
He also featured in one of Kenya’s most painful moments in recent memory, the 2023 London 7s relegation playoff against Canada, where Shujaa lost 12-07, ending their 23-year run in the World Rugby Sevens Series.
But redemption came a year later, when Humwa helped Kenya reclaim their core status with a convincing 33-15 win over Germany in Madrid, Spain.
Beyond the sevens format, Humwa has also made his mark in 15s rugby with the Kenya Simbas, where he is valued for his consistency in the back row.
A former Kenya U20 international, his move to Europe signifies not only personal growth, but the growing reputation of Kenyan rugby talent abroad.
Rugby Club ’t Gooi welcomed Humwa with a warm message: “Welcome to ’t Gooi, Herman!” as they prepare to reclaim their title in the 2025/26 Ereklasse season.
Based in Naarden, Rugby Club ’t Gooi is one of the Netherlands’ most historic and successful rugby clubs.
It was founded in 1933 and has captured five national titles, most recently the 2023/2024 championship, adding to their previous triumphs in 1951/52, 2008/09, 2012/13, and 2017/18.
The club plays its home matches at Sportpark Naarden, with a strong community presence anchored around their clubhouse, de Poort.
Known for its emphasis on youth development and grassroots engagement, ’t Gooi’s fast-growing membership base continues to feed into its successful senior teams.
Humwa’s addition is expected to bolster the team’s depth and physicality as they target recapturing the championship.
