The tournament will enter its final day on Sunday 13 October with Shujaa looking to retain their title
The Safari Sevens rugby tournament charged into the second day with exhilarating matchups as Kenya's Shujaa and Morans teams advanced to the quarter finals.
Day 1 Recap
The men’s division began with a tough game for Kenya Harlequins, who lost 26-0 to Shogun Rugby.
Shogun displayed remarkable form, with Frenchman Alex Odinga opening the scoring with a try that saw him sprint under the posts. Mervano Da Silva and Peter Williams added to Shogun’s tally in the second half.
Meanwhile, Kenya Shujaa set an impressive pace in their 38-0 win over Qatar. Dennis Abukuse, the top scorer in the National Sevens Circuit, opened the scoring, and the team carried that energy into their subsequent matches.
Kenya Morans endured a narrow 14-12 defeat to the Red Wailers in a highly competitive game. Nyaenya Moseti scored for the Red Wailers, putting them ahead before the Morans tied the game at 7-7 through a Jackson Siketa try.
Patrick Lumumba's second-half try briefly put Morans ahead. Still, a late effort from the Red Wailers sealed their win.
Day 2 Action
Shujaa continued to shine, extending their undefeated streak with a commanding 44-0 win over Varsity Select. Abukuse once again led the scoring, joined by William Mwanji and Benson Salem, as Shujaa exhibited fluid play and dominated both halves.
Kenya Morans fought hard to a 19-19 draw with Shogun Rugby. Brian Ondego landed the first try for Morans which was converted, followed by a try from captain Festus Shiasi.
Despite a strong comeback by Shogun, which saw Alex Odinga and other teammates score to level the match, the Morans held on for the draw.
The Zimbabwe Cheetahs displayed remarkable skill, thrashing Qatar 53-0 and setting up a much-anticipated showdown with Shujaa for the top spot in Pool A. Zimbabwe impressed with their speed and coordination, dismantling Qatar with ease and leaving fans eagerly awaiting their clash against Kenya.
The Kenya Lionesses also enjoyed a strong start to the day, shutting out Shogun Rugby 29-0 in a spirited performance.
However, they faced stiff opposition from Costa Blanca Barbarians and Uganda later on. Despite a resilient effort, the Lionesses were edged out 22-19 by Uganda in a nail-biting contest that saw both teams vying for control until the final whistle.
