Kenya Sevens’ Kevin Wekesa joins Rosko Specman in signing for French side

Following a scintillating performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Kenya Sevens ace Kevin Wekesa has joined French side Monaco Rugby Sevens.
The lanky player joins the club from the reigning Kenya Cup champions Kabras RFC ahead of the new 2024-2025 In Extenso Super Sevens season that commences on Friday.
Details of the deal are yet to be made public but in a video posted by the club ahead of their new campaign, Wekesa appeared in the squad unveiling.
Also joining him is South African speed demon Rosko Specman who was part of his nation’s squad that claimed bronze in the recently concluded Olympic Games.
Aside from Specman, Monaco have a star-studded squad that includes AgustĂn Fraga, GastĂłn Revol from Argentina, Fijian Semi Kunatani and Spaniards Jaime Manteca and Pol Pla.
Wekesa had a superb Olympic campaign, scoring Kenya Sevens’ first try at the Games in the 31-12 defeat to HSBC SVNS runners-up, Argentina.
The Mechanical Engineering at The Technical University of Kenya was a vital cog in Kenya Sevens’ promotion charge from the HSBC Challenger Series, scoring a try in the final against Germany.
He was also integral for Kabras Sugar as they claimed their three successive Kenya Cup title at the expense of bitter rivals KCB RFC.
