There will be only one leg of the women’s Elgon Cup because the Kenya squad recently returned from the WXV 3 tournament in Dubai where they successfully retained their slot for next year’s edition.
Three changes have been made to the Kenya Lionesses squad that will be on duty against Uganda Lady Cranes in the Elgon Cup set for Saturday, November 11 at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu.
Maureen Muritu, and Naomi Amuguni who were part of the Lionesses squad that reached the Rugby Africa Women’s 7s last month in Tunisia as well as newbie Janet Chanya get a nod to start.
Enid Ouma, who led the side to survival in Dubai, again leads the team to Kisumu and will start Saturday’s fixture at the blindside flank.
She is part of a back row that also features Diana Kemunto at openside and Phoebe Akinyi at number eight.
Maureen Chebet and Faith Livoi continue their second-row partnership with Everlyne Kalemera, Knight Otwoma, and Natasha Emali rounding off the front row.
Judith Okumu and Ann Goretti continue their half-back pairing while Stella Wafula partners Maureen Muritu in midfield while Christabel Lindo, Sharon Auma, and Diana Omosso complete the back three.
Uganda will visit their eternal lady rivals who won the last edition of the Elgon Cup in 2019 after its reintroduction.
The fierce Lionesses emerged victorious against Uganda in their last meeting during the 2022 Rugby Africa Women’s Cup at Wankulukuku.
There will be only one leg of the women’s Elgon Cup because the Kenya squad recently returned from the WXV 3 tournament in Dubai where they successfully retained their slot for next year’s edition.
This match, which is a one-off, winner-take-all fixture will be followed by the Men’s Elgon Cup return leg between Kenya and Uganda at 4.00 pm at the same venue.
