Kenya Cup: Kabras ace Kubu picks two accolades as season concludes

Kabras Sugar RFC playmaker Jone Kubu picked up two of the three Kenya Cup awards normally dished out at the end of a full season played in the country's top flight rugby league.

In the just concluded 2021/2022 campaign, the Fijian born Kenyan international scooped the Man of the Match award in the final played against Menengai Oilers at the Bull Ring Arena as he scored 24 out of the 34 points that helped his side complete a memorable comeback against their opponents.

Named in the starting 15 as the full back, the Kenya Simbas ace scored a try, five penalties and two conversions to help Kabras turn the game on its head as they ended their six year wait for a Kenya Cup title since their maiden trophy back in 2016.

Additionally, the dazzling player bagged the top Try Scorer award with his seven tries all through the season earning him the gong.

It is not the first time he is achieving such a feat. Back in 2016 when Kabras clinched their first ever trophy, Kubu, adored by many rugby fans in Kenya, was at the centre of it all.

He put in a man of the match performance against Impala Saracens at Impala Club as they won 5-22.

He scored more than 12 tries and managed 135 points during the 2015/16 season, and walked away with the Man of the Match accolade during the Kenya Cup final. In the 2019/2022 season he also won the top points scorer.

In taking the try scorer award, Kubu dispossessed his team mate Brian Tanga who was given the award last season.
