KCB RFC’s utility back William Opaka will be out for a long after undergoing a successful knee surgery on Tuesday 27 February.
The versatile player sustained the injury in their 64-10 victory over Kisumu RFC where he scored a try after coming off the bench in the dying minutes of the game.
The injury made him unavailable for their match against Kenya Harlequins where the Bankers labored for a 45-15 victory.
The injury means that he will be on the sidelines for the remainder of the Kenya Cup season.
Opaka underwent surgery for a medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury, which necessitates his absence for the remaining matches of the season.
“Let’s wish our speedy back William “Opashe” Opaka a speedy recovery. Opashe had a successful Knee surgery (MCL) yesterday (Tuesday) and will be out for the remainder of the season. Get well soon Champ,” the club statement revealed.
Opaka was part of the Kenya U20 team that clinched the Barthes Cup. He made one of the rarest moves in history by joining KCB Rugby from their rivals Kabras RFC. He went on to win the National 7s Series and the Impala Floodlit Cup.
The bankers who are unbeaten this season secured a place in the semi-finals after seeing off Kenya Harlequin 45-15 last weekend.
They are currently placed second on the log with 44 points. They are sharpening their claws to face the formidable Menengai Oilers on Saturday, 2 March.
After their match against the Oilers KCB will travel to Kakamega on March 9 for another nerve-wracking encounter against Kabras Sugar in what will lbe a top-of-the-table clash.
