KCB Rugby and Menengai Oilers will face off in the final of the 2024 Kabeberi 7s after impressive performances in the semifinal matches played on Saturday 25 August at the RFUEA Grounds.

This is the first time these two sides are facing off in a final in the circuit.

The Oilers are building on their Dala 7s performance where they reached the final stage but lost 24-5 to Kabras RFC.

The Bankers too are looking to defend their Kabeberi 7s title.

Oilers vs Quins

To reach this stage, the Oilers secured a 26-21 victory over Kenya Harlequin.

Although Quins had the early momentum, it was the Oilers who struck first, capitalizing on an error by Amon Wamalwa that allowed Beldad Ogeta to score near the posts.

Quins responded quickly, with Lucky Dewald selling a dummy just inside the 22-meter line before sprinting to score under the posts. However, the Oilers regained the lead when Denis Abukuse, who had been in electrifying form all weekend, took a pop pass from Ogeta and outpaced Wamalwa in a foot race, making it 14-7.

As the first half neared its end, Steve Arunga further extended the Oilers' lead, finishing off after Ogeta created the opportunity with a brilliant offload.

In the second half, Quins came out with relentless pressure, which paid off when Dewald dummied his way over the line from five meters out.

Then, after the Oilers failed to clear their lines, Herman Humwa scored for Quins, putting them ahead 21-19.

The Oilers missed a chance to regain the lead when Abukuse couldn't gather Ogeta's crosskick.

However, skipper Chrispine Shitundo redeemed the moment by pouncing on a loose ball and powering his way over the line, securing a 26-21 win for the Oilers.

KCB vs CUEA Monks

The Bankers showcased their dominance, defeating Catholic Monks 31-5 to secure their third consecutive final appearance at Kabeberi. KCB Lions wasted no time, with Austin Sikutwa’s kick behind the Monks' defense line perfectly gathered by Hassan Wambani to start the scoring.

Continued pressure from KCB led to Jacob Ojee capitalizing on a loose ball from a scrum to score between the posts.

Shortly after, the Bankers exploited a numerical advantage following Dennis Mulinge’s yellow card, allowing Floyd Wabwire to score in the corner, extending their lead to 12-0.

Vincent Onyala added to the scoreline with a trademark break from the resulting kickoff, racing clear for a try in the corner.

Sikutwa then crossed the line just before halftime, as the Monks struggled with their defensive numbers, giving KCB a commanding 24-0 lead at the break.

The second half started with Sikutwa muscling his way over the whitewash to extend KCB's lead further.

Although the Monks managed to score their first points of the game, Wambani responded by outpacing Jacob Ojee on the outside and sprinting to score in the corner, bringing the score to 31-5.

Despite relentless pressure from the Monks in the final moments, KCB held firm, sealing a comfortable 31-5 victory.
