Former Kenya Cup champions KCB Rugby maintained their unbeaten streak with a 24–12 victory over Kenya Harlequin, though it was far from a convincing performance in their Kenya Cup Week Five clash played on Saturday, 17 November, at the KCB Sports Club.

The Bankers came into the fixture buoyed by a dominant 43–19 win over Nakuru RFC, but were noticeably weakened by the absence of several key players away on national team duty with Kenya Sevens in South Africa.
Samuel Asati, Vincent Onyala, Floyd Wabwire, George Ooro, and Festus Shiasi were all unavailable, while head coach Andrew Amonde, who also doubles as Shujaa’s strength and conditioning coach, was also in the South Africa camp.
Those absences showed early on as KCB struggled to assert control, despite repeatedly entering Quins’ 22. Handling errors and poor decision-making proved costly, often handing possession back to a spirited Harlequin side.

Brian Wahinya’s clearance kicks were crucial in relieving pressure as Quins threatened early.
Quins struck first in the 10th minute after sustained pressure in KCB’s territory, with former Chipu star Patrick Wainaina crashing over for the opening try. Faran Juma calmly added the conversion to hand Quins a deserved 7–0 lead.
Following the water break, KCB responded with renewed intensity. Oscar Sorano powered through the Quins' defense to level matters, with Wahinya slotting the conversion.
Despite moments of slick passing that took them deep into the Quins’ half, the Bankers failed to capitalise further, and the teams went into the break tied at 7–7.

KCB looked sharper at the start of the second half but were again undone by handling errors. Quins capitalised on one such lapse and, after moving the ball wide, Alvin Mukachi dotted down for their second try, although the conversion attempt fell short to leave the score at 12–7.
The Bankers eventually reclaimed the lead after a sustained spell of pressure. From a lineout, quick hands released Fidel Maina, who crossed the whitewash before Wahinya added the extras to make it 14–12.
The match descended into a scrappy affair, with errors continuing to disrupt KCB’s rhythm.
Tempers flared late on, resulting in yellow cards for Quins’ Hillary Masira and Faran Juma, while KCB’s Branton Lusisa and Tyson Maina were also sent to the sin bin following an altercation in the Bankers’ red zone.
Towards the end of the closing half, KCB made the final minutes count. After camping in the Quins’ 22 in the closing minutes, Wahinya broke through a tackle to score before converting his own try to seal the 24–12 win at the death.
