KCB face uphill task in quest for Prinsloo 7s title after tough draw

Fresh from clinching the Driftwood 7s title, KCB Rugby will look to maintain their winning momentum at the Prinsloo 7s set for Saturday, 2 to Sunday, 3 August at the Nakuru Athletic Club.
However, the bankers face an uphill task after being drawn into a challenging Pool C.

The Dennis Mwanja-coached side will square off against a resurgent Nondies, the unpredictable Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Monks, and the invitational side Kisumu RFC, who are eager to cause an upset.
The pool promises no easy passage as all teams bring different threats and motivations.
KCB edged out Strathmore Leos 15-14 in a nail-biting Driftwood 7s final in Mombasa, setting the tone for a competitive 2025 National 7s Circuit. The clash was decided by the barest of margins.
Floyd Wabwire was the standout player in Mombasa, earning the Player of the Final accolade.
He also finished as Top Try Scorer with eight tries and Top Points Scorer with 40 points, walking away with the Bronze Award and a Ksh10,000 prize.
Other individual honors included: Nashon Mwangemi of Mombasa RFC, who was named the Most Promising Player of the tournament.
KCB were awarded Ksh100,000 for winning the Division I title, while Strathmore Leos, the runners-up, took home Ksh50,000.
Kabras RFC, who defeated Nakuru RFC 21-10 in the third-place playoff, earned Ksh25,000.
In Division II, Zetech Oaks claimed a hard-fought 10-0 win over NYS Spades in the final. The victory secured them Ksh 50,000 and promotion to Division I.
As the Prinsloo 7s kicks off the second leg of the circuit, the pools promise thrilling matchups.

Pool A brings together hosts Nakuru RFC, defending circuit champions Kenya Harlequin, Kabete Stallions, and Mombasa RFC.
Pool B pits reigning Prinsloo 7s champions Strathmore Leos against bitter rivals Menengai Oilers, with Daystar Falcons and Zetech Oaks also in the mix.
Pool D features Kabras RFC, MMUST, Impala RFC, and Mwamba RFC, four teams capable of going deep into the tournament.
After Nakuru, the circuit heads to the capital for the Christie 7s from Saturday, 16 to Sunday, 17 August, before shifting to Embu from Saturday, 24 to Sunday, 25 August. The final two legs will be the Kabeberi 7s, slated for Saturday, 6 to Sunday, 7 September, and the Dala 7s in Kisumu from Saturday, 13 to Sunday, 14 September.
