The Kakamega based side lifted the league and cup double in the same year they ended their six year drought for the league title

Following a very successful 2021/2022 campaign, Kabras Sugar RFC head coach Jerome Muller has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the club’s sixteenth man as he dedicated the team’s triumphant season double to the ever loyal fans who stuck with them through thick and thin especially in the past five years.

This season, Kabras ended their six year drought for a Kenya Cup title as they staged an impressive comeback in the league final to defeat Menengai Oilers, consequently lifting only their second cup after their maiden 2016 title.

In bagging the 2021/2022 Kenya Cup, the team overcame their final hoodoo that had seen them lose five straight finals against eight time champions KCB RFC.

On top of the title, the sugar millers sealed a memorable league and cup double as they defeated KCB 9-6 to defend and claim the 2022 Enterprise Cup, taking home all the honours available in the 2021/2022 15s season.

“We are taking these two cups back to Kakamega and I just want to thank all the supporters for sticking with us through thick and thin. We had some lean years in the last five years against KCB but we have finally achieved it. For the whole community of Kakamega, this is to appreciate them,” the South African said.

Additionally, the head coach noted that the club’s future was in the right hands as he praised the youngsters who managed to fend off KCB from beating them to the Enterprise Cup. In that final, they missed eight key players who had travelled with the Kenya Simbas squad to South Africa.

“Most people had written us off because our players are down in South Africa with the national team. The last three games was mainly our youngsters and fringe players getting game time and for me that is comforting getting to see the young boys coming through the ranks," he added.
