Kabeberi 7s: Kabras RFC share spoils with MMUST as Nondies, Strathmore impress

Kabras RFC shared 17-17 spoils with MMUST rugby in the Kakamega derby that was closely contested at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
This tournament will determine the winners of the overall 2023 National 7s Circuit. Log leaders Kabras RFC, with 92 points, have been separated from second-placed KCB Rugby by a single point.
Pool A
Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad suffered their second defeat of the day after going down 31-5 to Kenya Harlequins. The Quins were coming from a disappointing 12-7 loss to Nondies RFC were in hunt for a first win.
The students on the other hand had gone down 26-0 to Tessen Sports Warriors in their opening match. They will have a chance to redeem themselves when they tackle Nondies RFC in the final pool match.
Nondies RFC continued with their impressive running, hunting down Tessen Sports Warriors 26-10 in the second Pool A match.
Pool B
Nakuru RFC picked their second win in the pool after humbling Kisumu RFC 28-0. It is 2/2 wins for Wanyore while the lakeside team has not tasted a win at the RFUEA Grounds. They will be looking to bounce back when they lock horns with Impala RFC in their final pool match later in the day.
Strathmore Leos on the other hand picked their first Kabeberi 7s win following a 33-5 over Impala RFC. The Christie and Tisap 7s finalists started their day by sharing 5-5 spoils with Nakuru RFC in a closely contested match.
Pool C
Kabras RFC shared 17-17 spoils with MMUST Rugby in the closely contested match that was MMUST-dominated. MMUST started on a high, opening the score sheets with a five pointer through Veron Kaburu. The conversion attempt was unsuccessful.
The students then lost possession to see Kabras RFC’s hands on the ball. A series of passes and the Sugarmen managed their first try. Scores 5-7.
MMUST then responded with a try from the fierce Tyson Juma who blew past Kabras’ defence. The conversion was successful to see the scores at 12-7 at halftime.
It was MMUST who opened the scoring in the closing half, courtesy of Washington Ombimma who was set up by Joseph Omulefu. 17-7.
Kabras responded via a five-pointer from Bryceson Adaka, but the conversion attempt went wide. 17-12. MMUST’s defence was caught napping by Duncan Abuyeka who sneaked for a try. Dan Angwech’s conversion attempt went wide. FT 17-17.
Mwamba RFC emerged 19-12 winners over Daystar Falcons after a closely contested match. Caleb Bosire’s charges were the first to score through Eddy Wambugu, with the conversion being successful for a full 7-0 complement.
Mwamba RFC then responded via a try from John Oduok. Daniel Taabu’s conversion attempt went wide to see the Falcons take a two-points lead.
In the second half, the students further scored two tries, converting one. Mwamba RFC on the other hand managed two converted tries through Tisap 7s Top Points Scorer Brian Mutugi. FT scores 19-12.
Pool D
KCB Rugby defeated Catholic Monks 35-7 while the Oilers fried Moi University Arsonists in a 38-7 loss. Moi Arsonists were glowing in their brand new kits.
