It appears Jone Kubu is having the best possible start in 2025.
A photo making rounds online shows the celebrated rugby star down on one knee, proposing to a mystery lady.
Her face is not clear in the viral image but Kubu’s radiant smile tells a beautiful story in the making.
Dressed in a casual yet stylish outfit, Kubu was captured holding a ring box in one hand while kneeling, a classic and timeless proposal move.
Adding to the charm, Kubu and what many term as his fiancée were dressed in matching outfits; Kubu in a green shirt and his fiancée in a blue dress.
The background of the photo also hinted at an intimate and thoughtfully planned setting, though the finer details remain under wraps.
Fans and fellow players have since flooded social media with congratulatory messages, expressing their excitement for the player’s apparent leap into this new chapter of life.
“Congratulations champion,” Kelly Sangura said.
Brian Mstahifa also joined in the congratulations noting, “Well done Kubu.”
“Well in the flying Fijian from Lurambi,” Dominic Mutao said.
While Kubu has yet to confirm the engagement publicly or reveal the identity of his fiancée, the photo alone has sparked widespread admiration and curiosity.
Kubu has been a rare gem for Kabras RFC, steering the team to its first-ever Kenya Cup victory in 2016, before recapturing the title on other several occasions, including the concluded 2022/23 and 2023/24 Kenya Cup seasons.
The Fijian-born rugby player also propelled the Sugarmen to their maiden Enterprise Cup title in 2019, which they have since retained.
Kubu arrived in Kenya in 2015 as part of the Samurai team for the annual Safari Sevens and was part of a group of Fijian players signed by Kabras Sugar.
While his mates stayed for a year and left, Kubu found a new love for Kenya and felt right at home.
Six years later, he received a call-up to the Kenya Simbas team by the then head coach Paul Odera, courtesy of a change in the rules of eligibility by World Rugby.
He played for the 15s side and also received some call-ups with the sevens, but it was in the longer version of the game that he found a home.
Only time can tell what he holds in the 15s game.
