The Kenya Cup returns to action on Saturday, 28 March, with two crucial rescheduled fixtures that could significantly impact both the playoff race and the relegation battle, as Kenyatta University’s Blak Blad host Impala RFC while Nondescripts RFC take on MMUST.

At the Blad Bin, Blak Blad will be aiming to steady themselves after a narrow 9-8 loss to Kisumu RFC when they face an Impala side fighting for survival.
The students sit fifth on the log with 24 points and have already secured a playoff slot, but a win would be vital in maintaining momentum and possibly improving their seeding ahead of the knockouts.
Blak Blad head coach Benard Rotich admitted that his side must raise their levels, particularly in key areas of their game.
“Looking inwards, I guess our mindset needs to really improve, then seizing every opportunity we create, and of course, our territorial game,” Rotich said.
Despite being assured of a playoff place, Rotich acknowledged the pressure on his players to deliver, especially after falling short at the same stage in previous seasons.
“Yes, there is pressure to put up a performance that will take us beyond the playoffs since we have been there twice now, but for us, we take it as a privilege since it drives us to do better,” he added.
A win for Blak Blad would see them strengthen their grip on fifth place and potentially close the gap on the teams above them, depending on other results. However, defeat could leave them vulnerable to slipping down the standings heading into the playoffs, setting up a tougher away fixture in the knockout stage.
For Impala, the equation is far more urgent. Sitting 10th with 16 points and with a game in hand, a win at the Blad Bin could lift them further up the table and significantly boost their chances of avoiding relegation. A loss, however, would leave them staring at the drop, especially if results elsewhere do not go their way.
Rotich is well aware of the threat posed by a desperate Impala side.
©Tabby Nashipae“It’s going to be a tough and competitive game since they are motivated after winning against Nondies in their last fixture and have some good forwards upfront,” he noted.
The students will take confidence from their last meeting, where they edged Impala 22-19 during the Impala Floodlights in November 2025, but the stakes are considerably higher this time around.
Meanwhile, at Ngong Racecourse, Nondescripts RFC will host MMUST in another fixture loaded with implications. Nondies will be looking to bounce back after their recent loss to Impala and solidify their position in the upper half of the table.
For MMUST, the permutations are equally critical. A win would not only improve their standing but could also see them leapfrog teams above them, tightening the mid-table race. On the other hand, a loss would dent their chances of climbing the table and leave them relying on other results to stay competitive.
