
Harlequins edge KCB Rugby to win Mwamba Cup title

Mombasa defeated JKUAT Cougars 31-16 to be crowned Nationwide champions.
Kenya Harlequins II edged KCB Rugby II 36-26 to claim the 2022/23 Mwamba Cup title in a final match played on Saturday 15 April at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi.
Prior to the final stage, Paul Murunga’s charges had beaten Blak Blad 33-10 in the semis while KCB Rugby were coming from a victory over Strathmore Leos.

Gabriel Namusasi was the first to register his name on the scoresheets with a five pointer that saw the visitors lead at 5-0.
The hosts were now more motivated than ever, piling pressure on KCB to see them infringe thrice, points that Arnold Onzere and Lucky Dewald collected.
Towards the end of the opening half, Edwin Otieno scored a try that was converted by Levy Amunga to see the scores climb to 12-9, with KCB leading at half time.
Kenya Harlequins were off to flying starts in the second half, with a try from Dominic Osino that was converted to see the Quins lead at 16-12. The visitors would then respond with a try that was converted to see the scores rise to 19-16.
Glen Onzere scored a penalty and Brian Waraba went over the white wash following a series of passes. Scores 26:19. Andrew Amonde then scored for KCB with Amunga converting to make it 26-26.
Onzere struck again, this time with a penalty that gave the Quins a 29-26 lead before Osino’s try. Onzere added the extras to bring the scores to 36-26 before the sound of the final whistle.
Mombasa RFC edge JKUAT Cougars
Former Kenya Cup champions Mombasa RFC defeated JKUAT Cougars 31-16 in the second match of the day. The Coastal-based team quickly adjusted to the low Nairobi temperatures to hit their opponents.
JKUAT Cougars reached this stage after a narrow 15-11 win over Moi University Arsonists while Mombasa RFC beat Sigalagala RFC 41-12.
