
Former Shujaa icon Humprey Kayange announces running in upcoming KRU elections

The respected former Shujaa captain will be vying for one of the Director's slots.
Former Shujaa captain and World Rugby Hall of Famer Humprey Kayange has announced his decision to vie for the Director’s position in the upcoming Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) elections slated for Friday 24 March 2023.
Kayange, who has served in various leadership roles since retiring from playing rugby, revealed his ambitions for running in the upcoming elections as he stated his desire to bring about progressive change towards the game in the country.

“I would like to inform you of my candidature for a Director role at the Kenya Rugby Union.
My passion for good governance is something that I strongly believe in whilst getting to work with all stakeholders in the process. This is complimented by my goal to influence progressive change towards our Rugby dynamics in Kenya,” he said in a statement.
“Having been involved in rugby to a decent level transitioning into leadership, governance and player welfare at different organizations, this has given me the experience, knowledge and skill I purpose to transfer to play this role to the best of my ability. I would like to seek for your support in the upcoming KRU elections,” he added.
“Our former player, captain and club secretary, Humphrey Kayange has been nominated to run for the position of Director at the KRU elections. We seek your support to ensure a true servant of our sport brings his world class leadership to the service of the local game,” Kenya Cup side RFC, where he played before transitioning into leadership confirmed.
Kayange serves in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) as an Athletes’ Commission member. He also sits in the NOC-K Executive as the Athletes Representative and was recently drafted into the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA’s) Executive as a member.
Back in 2021, Kayange was inducted into the World Rugby’s Hall of Fame, class of 2021. He was among six legends of the game recognized by the World Rugby Hall of Fame for making outstanding contributions to the game of rugby throughout their careers, demonstrating rugby’s character-building values of integrity, passion, solidarity, discipline and respect on and off the field.

Kayange who played in the Rio Olympics Games was a member of the World Rugby bid team that convinced the International Olympic Committee (IOC) members to elect rugby sevens to the Olympic programme in October 2009.
