
Embu 7s: Dates revealed as buildup tournament makes comeback

The tournament has already attracted seven Kenya Cup sides including defending champions Menengai Oilers
The Embu 7s will be making its return to the country for the first time in two years as the tournament dates have been set to be played on May 7th and 8th 2022 at the Njikiri Showground in Embu.
The tournament was last held in 2019 with Kenya Cup side Menengai Oilers edging opponents Topfry Nakuru 14-12 to win the title. In those last two years, the competition has not taken place due to the ravaging novel coronavirus pandemic that forced a stop to competitions around the country.
“The Embu 7s will be played on May 7th and 8th at the Njikiri Showground in Embu,” confirmed a statement from Kenya Rugby Union.

The tournament, which will be used by clubs as a build up ahead of the National Sevens Circuit that is set to commence on 21/22 May, has so far witnessed entries from 14 teams including defending champions Menengai Oilers, Topfry Nakuru, BATUK, Nondescript, Mean Machine, Masinde Muliro, newly promoted Catholic Monks, Mwamba, USIU Martials,B lak Blad, Meru RFC, Kiambu RFC, Rongai Morans and hosts Embu RFC.
The national 7s Circuit will similarly be making a return to the country after two years. The circuit will still maintain the traditional six rounds starting with the opening two legs of the Kabeberi and Christie Sevens in Nairobi before heading to Kakamega, Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru for the subsequent legs.
