Defending champions handed favourable draw as Prinsloo 7s pools are unveiled

Defending champions Strathmore Leos have been handed what appears to be a manageable pool after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) unveiled the draws for the 17th edition of the Prinsloo 7s, set for Saturday, 25 to Sunday, 26 July at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

The Leos, who lifted the 2025 title after a commanding 24-7 victory over KCB Rugby in the final, headline Pool B where they will face university rivals Daystar Falcons, MMUST RFC and Kisumu RFC as they begin the defense of their crown.

Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras Sugar headline what is expected to be the toughest group in Pool A. They have been drawn alongside Kenya Harlequin, Mwamba RFC and Embu RFC in a pool packed with experienced sevens campaigners.
Reigning National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby will begin their quest for another circuit title from Pool C, where they will take on CUEA Monks, Nondescripts and newly promoted NYS Spades, who earned promotion after winning the Division Two title.
Hosts Nakuru RFC will enjoy home support in Pool D but face a stern test against neighbours Menengai Oilers, Impala RFC and Blak Blad in what promises to be another tightly contested group.
The Prinsloo 7s, now in its 17th edition, has become one of the flagship events on the National Sevens Circuit calendar and is expected to provide an early indication of the teams capable of challenging for the overall circuit honours this season.
Division Two pools confirmed
KRU has also announced the Division Two pools for the tournament, with 16 teams set to compete under a revised format that features four pools of four teams each.
Pool A consists of Makueni Ravens, KCA University, Kabarak University and NYS Scorpions.
Pool B features Zetech Oaks, MKU Thika, Nandi Bears and UOE Trojans.
Pool C has Homeboyz Rugby, Northern Suburbs, Kitale Rugby and Egerton Wasps.
Pool D comprises AP Warriors, Stallions Rugby, Eldopoly Community and Molo Rugby Club.
