Kenya U20 Rugby head coach Simon Jawichre has announced his Chipu squad for the World Rugby Junior Trophy, set to take place in Scotland from July 2-17, 2024.

As promised, the coach has retained the squad that triumphed in the 2024 Rugby Africa Barthes Cup.

The squad features nine players from the 2023 World Rugby Junior Trophy hosted in Nairobi; Geylord Ngasi, Andycole Omolo, Iddo Kuta, Wycliffe Ogutu, Nathan Tsindoli, Patrick Wainaina, Faran Juma, Michael Wamalwa, and James Olela.

The team will depart for Scotland on Thursday, June 27, 2024.

Chipu have been training in Nairobi, conducting several sessions, including joint sessions with the senior side, Kenya Simbas.

The 35-man squad has been in a residential camp at the Kenya Academy of Sport, with training sessions held at Peponi School and KCB Sports Club.

Kenya, the African Champions, is placed in Pool B alongside the USA, Uruguay, and the Netherlands. In Pool A, host Scotland will compete against Japan, Hong Kong, and Samoa.

Teams will play in a round-robin format during the group stage to determine the final pool rankings.

The final rankings will determine the matchups: the pool toppers will compete in the final, runners-up will face off in the bronze final, third-placed teams will battle for fifth place, and the bottom-placed teams will compete for seventh place.

Kenya U20, commonly known as Chipu, will tackle Uruguay in their opener on Tuesday, July 2, at 4:30 p.m. E.A.T. In their second match, Chipu will face the Netherlands on Sunday, July 7, at 9:45 p.m. E.A.T. Their final pool match will be against the USA on Friday, July 12, 2024.
