Change of guard at Impala Saracens as ex-Kenya 7s star takes over

The former Kenyan international takes over from Mitch Ocholla who has been with the club for two years

Kenya Cup side Impala Saracens have appointed former Kenya Sevens player Oscar Osir as the club’s new head coach going into the new rugby season.

Formerly a backs coach and in charge of the Impala 7s side, Osir has been appointed head coach of all the Impala associated teams; senior men, ladies and academy and takes over the baton from Mitch Ocholla who is understood to have resigned after a two year stay at the Ngong Road based side.

“We write with reference to appointment of Oscar Osir as the Impala Rugby Club Head Coach effective 1st October 2021 reporting directly to the Impala Rugby Club Committee. As part of his roles and duties he will be tasked with The coordination and coaching of all matters relating to competitions, leagues and any other engagements involving all the teams (Senior Men, Ladies and Academy),”

“Identifying any additional coaching capabilities required and leading recruitment process, developing the club's overall rugby plan including player development plan, responsible for overall performance of the teams in all competitions, work closely with Team Manager, Medical Staff, and SnC coach to ensure player welfare is prioritized,”

“On behalf of the Impala Saracens Rugby Club, we wish him all the best and success in the role as we rebuild into the new season,” a statement from the club read.

In the 2021 season, Impala missed on the top four playoff positions as they finished in seventh place. In the nine games they played, the club managed to win only three games, drawing two and losing four as they collected nineteen points.
