CG22: Shujaa to face defending champions New Zealand in main cup quarter final
Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 30.07.22. | 16:30
The game kicks off at 23:10 EAT on Saturday.
The men’s national rugby 7s side Shujaa, will have a huge mountain to climb in the main cup quarter finals of the ongoing Commonwealth Games as they are set to lock horns against defending champions and rugby powerhouse New Zealand.
Shujaa, who won two games against Uganda and Jamaica on the opening day before losing to Australia in their last pool clash, finished second in pool D on 7 points behind the Aussies who topped the table on 8 points.
The Kenyan side had a real chance to clinch top spot in their pool but a last minute mistake against Australia saw them lose 7-5 to settle for second place consequently settling for the tougher clash.
New Zealand on the other hand topped pool A after picking three straight wins in their encounters. The All Blacks have won five of the six Commonwealth Games held since 1998 and it will take some doing for Kenya, who have never won any medal at the event, to stop them.
The game kicks off at 2310EAT on Saturday.
In the other quarter final pairings, Double Olympic champions Fiji, who are still chasing a first ever rugby Commonwealth Gold will take on Scotland who finished second in pool C.
