Amaitsa grabbed a hattrick to seal Kenya's seventh place finish
Kenya's 7s rugby team, Shujaa, wrapped up their Cape Town campaign on a high note, defeating Great Britain 32-17 to secure seventh place.
The thrilling encounter showcased Kenya’s attacking prowess, with Nygel Amaitsa delivering a standout performance.
Referee Evans Uzzurmendi blew the whistle to start the game, and Kenya wasted no time. George Ooro opened the scoring with a try, followed by a successful conversion.
Kenya's maul was in top form, allowing them to regain possession after a scrum. Amaitsa then offloaded the ball to speedster Patrick Odongo, who powered through for Kenya’s second try, which was successfully converted.
Odongo added another try after Kenya displayed brilliant teamwork with a series of precise passes, although the conversion went wide.
Kenya's dominance continued when Samuel Asati, benefiting from a well-worked scrum, crossed the line for another try.
The GB team struggled to break through Kenya's defense but found a lifeline when Sunni Jardine capitalized on Abukuse’s missed tackle to score their first try, though the conversion was unsuccessful.
Despite the opponents' efforts to control the game in Kenya's green zone, a handling error saw Ooro tactically kick the ball to touch, closing the first half with Kenya leading 22-5.
The second half began with Great Britain's Matt Davidson scoring and converting his own try, reducing the deficit.
Kenya responded immediately, with Amaitsa crossing the line for his second try after the kickoff. Team GB hit back through Luke Mehson adding another try to their tally. Shujaa saved their best for last, with Floyd Wabwire brilliantly offloading under pressure to Amaitsa, who completed his hat-trick.
The try sealed Kenya’s emphatic 32-17 victory, earning them a well-deserved seventh-place finish.
