Buffa returns as Shujaa name World Cup qualifiers squad

Kenya will hope to retain the Championship won back in 2019.

The Kenya national men’s 7s side, Shujaa have released their squad for the Rugby Africa 7s championship that doubles up as the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifiers slated for Kampala, Uganda from 23-24 April.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu has drafted Alvin Otieno into the squad after missing the Singapore and Vancouver legs of the HSBC World Seven Series through injury.

Skipper Nelson Oyoo headlines the 12-man squad with Augustine Lugonzo who was instrumental in Homeboyz RFC avoiding the drop in the Kenya Cup this season also making a return while his teammate Amon Wamalwa getting a debut call up.

Alvin Marube who suffered an injury in the Vancouver 7s will sit out of the qualifiers while Edmund Anya who registered a couple of tires in Singapore and Vancouver retains his place.

Shujaa will be hoping to retain the Rugby Africa 7s championship which will act as the Rugby Sevens World Cup after securing it back in 2019 with the championship also doubling up as the Commonwealth Games qualifiers.

A total of 14 nations are set to battle it out for the three available slots with South Africa already securing a slot by virtue of being the host nation for the intercontinental showpiece.
