The World Rugby accredited 7s coach is expected to take the course till 2024 at the University of Peloponnese in Sparta, Greece.

Blak Blad head coach Motto Williams has expressed his utter delight after getting a fully sponsored scholarship opportunity from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to pursue a Master’s Degree Program in Greece (MSc Olympic Studies, Olympic Education, Organization and Management of Olympic Events).

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, an elated Motto detailed how he landed the rare opportunity as he was the only representative from Kenya and among the only two participants chosen to take part in the program from the entire continent.

“I was lucky to get a scholarship with the IOC, of course with a linkage from the National Olympic Committee of Kenya. In the program, I was again lucky to be the only representative from Kenya and one of the two selected from Africa,” the coach disclosed.

“The first semester already took place and we did it for 10 weeks. It is a Masters scholarship and the main aim of the study is to understand about the Olympic movement and its history which will lead to a chance to implement the learnings in your country, the continent and at the international stage.

It is a very good opportunity for me because I am furthering my studies which will help me gain knowledge. It will also give me a chance to impact others after the learning experience,” he added.

Motto, who revealed 2024 as the finish date for the course, relayed his gratitude to Kenya Rugby Union and NOC-K, for helping in the application process and selecting him as the ideal candidate to represent the country.

“I want to first thank the IOC for giving me the opportunity because it was tedious work. I must also thank the LOC and Kenya Rugby Union who I applied through as my federation. I believe we were a lot of people who applied and I am grateful to have been presented forward.

I started applying for this in 2021 when the information came out and I am so grateful to finally get it after the long processes involved. I almost gave up but right now I am humbled to be representing my country and the continent,” Motto said.

According to information, the Master’s Degree Program in Olympic Studies constitutes an innovation in the Olympic Movement at an international level and is supported by the IOC.

The educational program is based on the three pillars of the Olympic Movement: Education, Sports, and Culture, which constitute the foundation for Olympism and Olympic Pedagogy.

Additionally, the philosophy of the program is consistent with the philosophy of the Olympic movement for the diffusion of the Olympic ideal worldwide, the promotion of knowledge and research in Olympic issues and equal global participation.
