KCB Rugby powerhouse Andycolle Omollo has opened up on the details that made the difference in Kenya Simbas’ victory over Uganda.
Omollo believes seizing critical moments was the key to the team’s 32-24 victory over Uganda Cranes in the Rugby Africa Cup 2025 quarterfinal held on Tuesday, 8 July at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala.

Omollo, who delivered a dominant display in the engine room, was named Man of the Match in what was only his third appearance for the national 15s side.
The 21-year-old lock credited teamwork, discipline, and execution under pressure as the factors that set the Simbas apart.
“Rugby is a game of chances, and today, we made the most of ours; that’s what made the difference,” he offered.
The Simbas made an early statement of intent by opting for a corner lineout instead of an easy three points in the opening minute. Although Uganda defended desperately to deny an early try, Omollo observed that an aggressive mentality set the tone for the match.
“This win is not just mine; it belongs to the whole team. We played as a unit, and I’m grateful to my brothers for their effort. It was a very tight game, full of energy, and the fans made it even more special. This means a lot to me,” he continued.
The win marked Omollo’s third cap for the Simbas, all against Uganda. He made his senior debut during the 2024 Elgon Cup, helping Kenya to a 48-30 aggregate win, including a try in the second leg that solidified his growing reputation.
His rise has been steady and impressive.
From turning heads in 2023 with Chipu (Kenya U20), Omollo transitioned to KCB RFC’s senior squad in 2024 before earning his Simbas call-up.
Now, he stands as one of the vital figures in Kenya’s push to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup.
“Uganda is a strong side. It’s always a pleasure to face them. Being neighbours, it’s always a derby, and this one lived up to that,” he said.
Kenya will next face Zimbabwe in the semifinals on Sunday, 13 July, with a spot in the final and a step closer to the World Cup on the line.
