The team is however struggling after registering poor results recently

Former Kenya 7s skipper Andrew Amonde is confident of a good outing for Shujaa at the Commonwealth Games after the Pool draws were released on Friday.

Kenya were drawn against 2010 Commonwealth Games runners-up Australia, neighbors and arch-rivals Uganda and Jamaica in Pool D with the tournament set to kick off on Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July.

Amonde who was part of the squad in the 2018 Games revealed that he was delighted that the team was drawn against Uganda adding that Shujaa landed a favorable Pool with the team standing a massive chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals.

“I think it's God's favor that we have been drawn against Uganda in the Sevens World Cup because we have a lot at stake against them and I’m very confident with the current squad.

The most important thing is how we are going to start doing our calculations for the quarters after looking at every game that we are going to play at the Commonwealth but I wish the boys all the best,” said Amonde.

Shujaa finished eighth in the 2018 Commonwealth Games and will hope to build on their performance despite currently struggling with results as they are staring down the barrel in the HSBC World Seven Series.

Amonde added that the team should focus their attention on testing themselves against Australia with Jamaica and Uganda below Kenya in the world rankings.

“If I was in that team, the most important thing that I would be focused on is strategising on how to face Australia because we are capable of beating the rest of the teams in the pool,” added Amonde.
