The tactician will be part of the Tanzania Rugby Union coaching staff in addition to his duties at South Coast Pirates.

The Tanzania Rugby Union on Monday, May 22, appointed South Coast Pirates Head Coach Kevin Amiani to spearhead the development and growth of rugby in Tanzania. With a wealth of experience and a proven track record in coaching, the TRU is aiming for the stars with Amiani on board.

The South Coast Pirates head coach has led the side to two Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) Championship semis. He also holds level II certification in coaching. His first mission will be to form a formidable team that will see Tanzania achieve the highest rugby levels possible.

In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport after his appointment, an audibly excited Amiani said that he was looking to channel his youthful energy to make TRU a hub of rugby excellence.

"I was super excited to receive the opportunity. My long-term ambition as a coach has always been to coach at the highest level possible. My target is to help and grow Tanzania Rugby to reach the highest international standards," Amiani revealed.

The tactician will be looking to build on his first assignment against Welsh side Bryncenthin RFC, where Tanzania XV Select lost 17-7.

Amiani’s appointment comes at a crucial time when the TRU seeks to expand the footprint of rugby across Tanzania and engage a wider audience in the sport. One of his primary objectives will be to identify, nurture, and harness the potential of local rugby talent. He aims to place emphasis on talent development and player welfare.

The coach’s role extends beyond developing rugby at the grassroots level. He is also entrusted with the task of forming a formidable team that will represent Tanzania at the highest levels possible, as well as working with the TRU’s coaching staff to implement programs that will enable the team to compete with distinction on the global stage.
