The Lionesses had a dream start by beating Zambia 22-0 but fell 10-7 to neighbors Uganda
Kenya Lionesses will face off with Tunisia in the quarterfinal of the 2022 Rugby Africa Women’s Sevens in Jemmal, Tunisia, despite losing to Uganda in the second match of Day One action.
The Lady Rugby Cranes beat the Lionesses 10-07, with captain Janet Okello scoring the only try for Kenya followed by a successful conversion while Charlotte Thereza Mudoola and Yvonne Najjuma scored for Uganda but failed to convert.
Kenya will not only be fighting for the continental crown but also the sole ticket to this year’s World Cup and the Commonwealth Games, leaving the chances open with South Africa not contesting for the World Cup consideration as they are the host.
Earlier, the Lionesses had a dream start as they eased off past Zambia 22-0 in the first game but they could not replicate the same against Uganda in the second match.
In the rankings done after Day One, Kenya was ranked fourth and thus managed to slot in for quarters set for tomorrow and thus have another fighting chance to go for continental glory.
In the other quarterfinal matches, South Africa will take on Zambia, while Madagascar battle it out with Ghana, with Uganda playing Zimbabwe.
