Kabras RFC forwards coach Max Adaka will be hoping to lead the Buffaloes to greater heights when the 2024 Rugby Super Series kicks off in May.

The Super Series tournament which started in 2003 is set to resume this year after an 11-year break to catapult the 15’s game to greater heights.

Adaka has been tasked with leading the Buffaloes together with Kabras RFC 7s coach Felix Ayange and Edwin Achayo.

Phil Odidi and Redempta Chepwogen will serve as the team's physios while Alice Ndege takes charge of strength and conditioning.

The Buffaloes will be based in Kakamega and will comprise Kenya Cup defending champions Kabras RFC, Kisumu RFC, and former Kenya Cup side Catholic Monks.

They will turn up in white and blue jerseys and play their first match on May 4.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Adaka was glad with the appointment, noting that he was keen to bring his A-game on board to propel the Buffaloes to greater heights.

With the Kenya Cup over, he viewed it as a perfect chance to exercise his skills further.

He is not new to the task, having played for the Lions between 2011 and 2013 when he was key in propelling them to the final where they lost to the Rhinos.

He will be keen to bring his wealth of experience on board.

"I took it positively because it was a chance to showcase my abilities in coaching and it was a chance to get me out of my comfort zone. Coaching players from different teams, with different cultures and skill levels will be exciting," Adaka offered.

The tactician, who is fresh from leading Kabras Sugar to win the 2024 Great Rift 10s, pointed out that the management and players had a meeting to outline their goals for the tournament, and he was counting on his charges to attain the goals set.

"We had a goal-setting session with the players, and the management team last week. Our short-term goal is to win a game at a time, and the long-term goal is to win the whole thing. I believe that with the players we have, we can easily achieve these goals that we've set for ourselves," he revealed.

Adaka has less than a fortnight to select a strong team for the challenge.

Despite that, he was confident that he would rise to the task.

Although the team is dedicated and enthusiastic, they face logistical challenges like financial constraints making it difficult to assemble all players at once for training.

Some Buffaloes are based in Kisumu, others in Nairobi, and some in Kakamega.

"Since we have a very short time before our first game, my main focus is on the players' fitness and skills before embarking on the game plan and patterns that we are supposed to use in the series. I plan to get the players on the same page so we can work as a team. As of now it's challenging to get all these players in one training venue due to financial constraints. We've got players who have to travel from Nairobi and Kisumu to attend sessions in Kakamega," he disclosed.

He urged the fans to be on the lookout for exciting and high-intensity matches from the Buffaloes.

“To all the buffaloes fans and supporters, I'd like to urge them to continue supporting the boys as they showcase their prowess in the game of rugby, and expect exciting rugby in the coming weeks,” he said.
