The State Department of Sports have told sports federations that they have run dry their coffers from their quota of the Ksh 15B allocated to SASDF for the FY 2021/2022
The Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage, through the State Department of Sports, has announced to sports federations across the country it is not in a position to facilitate international events for the remaining days of the 2021/2022 Financial Year.
This is after exhausting their allocation in the Sports, Arts & Social Development Fund (SASDF) for the said Financial Year that ends on June 30, a kitty that they have been using to finance various sports federations.
Due to budgetary constraints, the State Department of Sports has further requested federations to seek sponsorship from other organizations to facilitate their international events.
"The State Department of Sports which has been facilitating various Sports Federations through SASDF for international events is not in the position to do so. This is because the Sports Department has exhausted its funding allocation from the SASDF for this financial year.
This is therefore to inform all Federations expecting funding that it will not be possible to be funded due to budgetary constraints. At the moment they are requested to seek sponsorship from other organizations," read part of the memo.
For the Financial Year 2021/2022, the SASDF was allocated Ksh 15 Billion which was an upward revision from the previous year by Ksh 1 Billion. An almost similar addition has been included for the upcoming Financial Year and the SASDF is set to benefit from an allocation of Ksh 15.8 Billion.

However, the team is now set to leave on Thursday after leading gaming platform Mozzart Bet sponsored the team for one year to a tune of Ksh 10 million last week.
The national Men's basketball team, Kenya Morans, has already started preparation for the World Cup qualifiers set for 1 to 3 July in Egypt but the development puts their travel in limbo.
The Men's National handball team is also set to travel to Egypt for the Africa Cup of Nations in July as well.
