Kenyan international Bush Wamukota has heaped praise on new coach Liz Mills ahead of the AfroBasket qualifiers.

Kenya Morans centre Bush Wamukota is confident of breaking the 28-year duck to qualify for the AfroBasket Championship following the appointment of new coach Liz Mills.

The Kenyan international laurelled the new Australian coach who was appointed at the end of January and boasts vast experience in African basketball having been in the continent since 2011.

Wamukota highlighted the improvements made under Mills since joining the Morans and is hopeful that players plying their trade abroad will join the team in the coming week.

“The preparations have been top-notch under coach Mills and we have now added statistical advantage and she has really helped us with films so we do not only train physically but also mentally.

“We now have an idea how our opponents will play and their statistics which is very helpful in preparations, training has been going on smoothly but we are not yet full house as we expect the aboard based players to arrive next week,” said Wamukota.

The Morans last qualified for the AfroBasket for the first time since 1993 as the hosts of the tournament and finished fourth.

Kenya was handed a glimmer of hope after beating Mozambique in the first window in Kigali last November following losses to heavyweights Senegal and Angola.

Wamukota asked Kenyans to brace themselves for massive upsets in the second window as they only need a win to secure their place in the tourney.

“I missed the first round because I tested positive for Covid and the team missed my services, but I'm now back in full strength and I'm very ready to help my team.

“I'm confident that we will win the coming games and Kenyans should be ready for huge upsets because we have high spirits in the camp,” added the lanky centre.

Kenya will resume their qualification in Cameroon on Friday 19 February when they take on Senegal on February 19, meet Angola a day later and tackle Mozambique in their last Group B fixture.
