Wafula chasing KBF promotion with Snipers

The side has reached the playoffs in the last two seasons but failed to gain promotion to the top tier.

Veteran Ulinzi Warriors forward turned tactician Ancet Wafula who has taken over the coaching of division one side Snipers says the team will need to work on their defence if they are to gain promotion to the top tier league.

The soldiers fell in the final step to gaining promises in the last season, finishing third after they lost in the semis to Zetech Titans.

As the new league takes shape, coach Wafula believes the side has what it takes to make that one last step to joining their fellow army men, Warriors, in the top tier league but they have to put their house in order for that to happen.

"We have been in the division one league for two seasons and that experience will come in handy in our quest for promotion. Our defense has to be worked on.

The players need to have the endurance to sustain the kind of defense we play. At the moment, we start well but they lose the gas to keep going and teams take advantage of that.

The team is in a good place offensively so with better defense we get better," offered Wafula.

Last season the team was under the stewardship of coach Bernard Mufutu and Esther Butali who have since been moved to coach the senior team, Warriors, leaving Wafula who until last season was still actively playing for Warriors in charge of the division one side.

"From the two seasons that the team has reached the playoffs but failed in gaining promotion we have picked lessons that will come in handy this time round.

We lose concentration towards the end of matches and that has seen us lose games we shouldn't have. We are making amends, top of which is to protect our leads," added Wafula.

The finalists in the lower division leagues gain promotion. In 2019, Snipers lost in the playoff quarters amd they went one step further last season, reaching the semis where they fell to Titans.
